Springtide is a trio from Australia (though one of them is a New Zealander) who come to us this month on their tour of the North Island.
Hammered dulcimer player Jackie Luke grew up in the Waikato. She is joined by Greg Wilson on Celtic harp & accordions and innovative cellist Rita Woolhouse to produce a repertoire that features Celtic classics (e.g. O’Carolan, Dougie McLean) interwoven with music from around the world. They also write their own tunes, and Jackie’s songs reflect her Kiwi heritage. Expect Scottish tunes to rub shoulders with Maori legend, Cornish Reels, Irish airs, and songs which are touching, unusual, and sometimes humorous.
The evening includes two contrasting support acts drawn from our own musical community: AGM, becoming widely known for their unique triple-hurdy-gurdy treatment of old and new music from France, Spain and elsewhere; and singer/songwriter Nigel Parry, performing solo from his own songbook of New Zealand-themed compositions.
From 7.30pm at Roseneath school hall, Maida Vale Road, Roseneath. Entry $15 Acoustic Routes members, $20 non-members
