The three-man band Other Roads wowed audiences at the 2014 Auckland Folk Festival and performed at sold-out gigs last year – and this will be Wellingtonians’ chance to catch this great folk music act. On this tour, the band is launching its latest album Long White Cloud, featuring the hit song “Akaroa”.
Gregor Borland, Pete Abbott and Dave Walmsley draw upon their diverse backgrounds in Scotland, England and Africa to create an exciting and original sound.
These talented multiinstrumentalists incorporate fiddle, bouzouki, guitars, mandolin and even harmonica with some extremely fine harmony singing.
They perform an eclectic mix of traditional and original compositions, ranging from soft ballads to foot-stomping Celtic fiddle tunes and choruses. Their expert musicianship and infectious enthusiasm, laced with humour, are sure to entertain.
In addition, the first half of the evening will see our own musical treasure Helen Dorothy performing what UK’s FRoots Mgazine called her ‘beautifully-crafted, intelligent songs rich in memorable imagery’. Living in this country since 1996, Helen Dorothy mostly performs in the Wellington region and has appeared as a guest performer at the 2010 Wellington Folk Festival, but also at Dunedin’s 2014/15 Whare Flat Folk Festival as a solo guest artist. Currently working on her new album (previous ones appeared in 2009 and 2013), Helen will be offering a range of songs old and new, accompanied by her seriously impressive guitar-playing and delivered in her inimitably appealing style.
From 7.30pm at Roseneath school hall, Maida Vale Road, Roseneath. Entry $20 Acoustic Routes members, $25 non-members
