November Concert

Thursday 25 November, Roseneath School Hall, 7:30 pm

Entry: $10 for AR Members and $15 for others. Cash only (no eftpos facilities).

Karen Munro

Karen has been writing songs for most of her life. Having spent some years in the UK fronting and playing lead guitar for various rock bands, recording, gigging and touring, she returned to her singer-songwriter roots after arriving home in Aotearoa thirteen years ago.

‘Across the Blue’ draws from her life history, with some old songs and some new ones. They are an eclectic mix of protest songs, social commentary, and songs about personal experiences, and reflect diverse influences including blues (with a pinch of jazz), bluegrass, and echoes of trad folk. There is even a dub track (a delightful accident in the rehashing of one of her own old songs).

Karen will be joined variously by Cindy Muggeridge on keyboard, Chris Moses on lead guitar, Jo Sheffield and Jude Madill on mandolin, fiddle and backing vocals

Wandering Thyme

Wandering Thyme is a folk/Americana family trio from Eugene, Oregon, now living in Wellington.  Bob, Rene, and Cara perform original songs and covers featuring fiddle, banjo ukelele, guitar and vocals. Described recently as “like getting a warm family hug”, the catchy tunes and harmonies will have you tapping and humming along.

Thwarted by Covid for our September concert, we are delighted that Ratproof have agreed to perform for us this month. They are a group of twenty-somethings who grew up surrounded by folk music, started jamming at Wellyfest, and have been playing together ever since. They play acoustic folk/Americana, influenced by the likes of Gillian Welch and the Be Good Tanyas, experimenting with harmonies and fiddle, flute and banjo instrumentals.

Note: This will proceed at Level 2. We have to observe social distancing requirements by carefully arranging the seating and restricting the numbers who can attend, so you will need to book by contacting contact Ruth Birnie 027 451 5486,

The audience will need to wear masks and everyone must scan or sign in at the door. We will not be able to provide the usual tea, coffee and biscuits at the break, but you can bring your own refreshments. To protect the performers, vocal mics will have covers which will be changed between acts. We will also have hand sanitizer available for everyone attending.

Please think carefully about attending the concert if you are not vaccinated, so we can make the gathering as safe as possible for everyone.
