What do you get when an acclaimed acoustic blues player teams up with a mandolin maestro and harmony singer of note? Beautiful songs underpinned by Dave’s driving guitar and topped with Janet’s sparkling mandolin and lush harmonies. Sit back and listen to an eclectic selection of songs sung with passion, power and delicacy.
Janet and Dave will be ably supported by a new line-up of well-kent performers; Garry Smith, Anne Russell and Kevin Ikin lead the singing with accompaniment on guitar, ukulele, harmonica and percussion, and Marie Russell is the narrator for a set called “Dodgers and Deserters: Songs and stories about the men who refused to go to war“.
This musical essay combines original songs, narration and images to tell stories about men who didn’t go to war – the ‘dodgers and deserters’. Most of the songs are based on true stories about people and events in Taranaki. Ranging from ballads to blues and acapella numbers, the songs and stories are sympathetic to the men who declined to go to the world wars.
Multi-instrumentalist and singer, Dominic is an exceptionally talented young musician and the current holder of the JA Pan Memorial Trophy for the most improved performer, awarded at last year’s AGM. It is our great pleasure to give him the stage for his Trophy performance.
